Esher Conservation Area was designated on 31 July 1973 by Surrey County Council and subsequently extended by Elmbridge Borough Council on 21 June to include Clive Road, and again on 27 February 2008 to include three further extensions. The conservation area is centred around the historic core of Esher which is medieval in origin and centred around the junction between the former main London to Portsmouth Road (now the A307) and the roads to Weybridge and Leatherhead. There are a number of important listed buildings within the conservation area including the Church of St George which is Grade l listed.

Conservation Area Designation Statement
The Council has published a Character Appraisal and Management Plan document for the conservation area. This document, which was endorsed by Planning Committee in 2008, was produced through collaborative working between the local community, consultants and the Council.
