Do I need planning permission?

The Planning Portal provides useful guidance on whether a project needs planning permission. Use the:

If you want us to confirm whether existing or proposed works need planning permission, you can apply for a lawful development certificate.

For some forms of permitted development, you need to apply for prior approval.

Other permissions to consider

You may also need other consents as well as, or instead of, planning permission. This could include:

• changes to listed buildings may need 'listed building consent'
• demolition in conservation areas may need planning permission
• developments that affect trees which are protected
• getting the kerb lowered outside your property may need permission
