Appeal a planning decision

How to appeal a planning decision, deadlines for appealing and find current appeals.

If you disagree with a planning decision made on your planning application, you can appeal against our decision. You can’t make an appeal against a decision made on someone else’s planning application.

For more information see GOV.UK: appeal against a planning decision.

You can appeal if your application is:

  • not decided within a set period
  • refused by the local authority
  • granted on conditions you disagree with

Deadline for appealing

Timescales for appealing to the Planning Inspectorate start from the date of the decision:

  • householder appeals: 12 weeks
  • minor commercial appeals: 12 weeks
  • advertisement appeals: 8 weeks
  • most other appeals: 6 months

Householder appeals

There's a different process to appeal a householder planning decision for a smaller project like an extension, conservatory or loft conversion. For more information see GOV.UK: appeal a householder planning decision.
