Privacy notice for skin piercing operators and premises.

Who we are and what we do

Elmbridge Borough Council are what is known as the ‘Controller’ of any personal data that you provide to us. For further information please see our corporate privacy notice.

What we need

In order to register as a Skin Piercer or to operate a Skin Piercing Premises we will require you to provide contact details of the operator and details of the business and its activities, as required by the Local (Government Miscellaneous) Provisions Act 1982.

Why we need it

The information is required in order to process your licence and is kept on a database, and within a public register. This information enables us to contact you and to assist us to perform our statutory duties in relation to Public Health and Health and Safety at Work functions, and forms part of our administrative and enforcement function.

The consequence of not providing the required information means the application will not be processed.

What we do with it

The information that you provide will be held by the Council and will be accessed by authorised Council employees. The information may be shared with other enforcement and health agencies including (but not exclusively) GP’s, the Police, HMRC, other Local Authorities Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Public Health England (PHE).

We may pass on your personal information if we have a legal obligation to do so, this includes exchanging information with other government departments for legal reasons.

We will also use this information to contact you to provide updates relating to health and hygiene, health and safety and environmental services associated matters.

How long we keep it

Your personal data will be removed from our database, in line with our retention policy 6 years after you cease being an operator or the business has ceased trading as applicable.

What we would also like to do with it

We may separately ask you for your permission to provide you with information about other Council services, and if you agree, how you would like to receive that information. But you do not have to give your permission to receive these details, and it is not a condition of your application.

What are your rights?

These are contained in our corporate privacy notice.
