With the red heat alert in place for this week , we are making some temporary changes to community centre services to help keep customers, volunteers and team members safe.
The wellbeing of our customers remains our priority. While some services will be adjusted, centre teams will continue to support members through welfare checks, regular contact and advice on staying safe during periods of extreme heat.
Service arrangements this week
Tuesday 23 June
Services will operate as normal. The centre teams will:
- check in with customers attending the centres
- provide advice and guidance on staying safe in the hot weather
- identify and follow up on any health or wellbeing concerns
- confirm arrangements for welfare calls later in the week
Wednesday 24 June
There will be no transport service.
The Weybridge Community Hub (located on first floor of the Weybridge Library Hub), which normally opens on Wednesdays, will remain open from 10am to 3pm as planned.
Centre staff will contact customers on the vulnerable client list to check on their wellbeing and offer support where needed.
Thursday 25 June
There will be no transport service.
Centres will remain open from 10am to 3pm as cool spaces, providing a safe and comfortable environment for customers who need relief from the heat.
Staff will continue to carry out welfare checks with customers on the vulnerable client list.
Friday 26 June
Arrangements for Friday will be reviewed based on the latest weather forecasts and conditions.
Customers will be updated as soon as possible if any changes are required. Centre colleagues will also follow up with anyone who was expected to attend services but has not been seen and will escalate any welfare concerns where appropriate.
Supporting vulnerable customers
We recognise the importance of regular face-to-face contact and wellbeing checks for many of our customers. Our centre teams are well placed to identify concerns early and provide coordinated support when needed.
These temporary arrangements are designed to balance the challenges that extreme weather can place on services while ensuring that vulnerable customers continue to receive the support, contact and welfare checks they may need.
We thank customers for their understanding and cooperation during this period of hot weather and encourage everyone to drink plenty of fluids, keep cool where possible and check on family, friends and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to the effects of heat.
For further information, please contact your local community centre.
More advice on staying safe in the heat is available from the NHS and UKHSA.
