We’re pleased to announce that a £1.3 million refurbishment of Hurst Pool is set to begin at the end of March 2026, with completion scheduled for late summer.

Hurst Pool has been a well-loved community facility in Molesey since its opening in 1996. It is currently operated and managed by Places Leisure on behalf of Elmbridge Borough Council. The pool welcomes around 157,000 visits each year.

While it has been well cared for over the years, the time has come for significant upgrades to ensure it remains a modern, functional and sustainable space for all.

The refurbishment will breathe new life into the pool, extending its lifespan and greatly enhancing the visitor experience. Works will include:

  • modernised changing rooms
  • upgraded interior décor throughout
  • enhanced energy efficiency to reduce environmental impact
  • improved vending provision for refreshments and coffee

Councillor Simon Waugh, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Commercial Strategy, said:

This refurbishment will revitalise a much-loved facility, offering a more modern, sustainable and enjoyable experience for our residents and visitors. Following the 2024 public survey, we explored options for a café but the feasibility work showed it wasn’t achievable within the space available, and it wouldn’t have been financially sustainable for any operator. Instead, we will enhance the existing vending provision with better snack options and a fresh bean coffee machine. While this may not meet everyone’s expectations, we hope the wider refurbishment works will improve the overall experience for all visitors.

Michael Cross, General Manager at Places Leisure, said:

We are excited to see the refurbishment plans for The Hurst Pool come to life over the next several months. We see every day the positive impact that The Hurst Pool has on its users and the joy it brings to the local community. These refurbishments will allow the pool to be modernised whilst also improving overall customer experience.

Whilst the pool is closed, we are looking at options and opportunities for users of the pool to be able to access neighbouring Places Leisure sites to minimise disruption. We will ensure all of our customers are kept up to date and supported throughout, including provided with details on how to access other sites.

We will share details and regular updates on our Hurst Pool refurbishment information hub.

We hope the improvements to Hurst Pool will provide a modern, sustainable facility that continues to serve our community well into the future.
