We're expanding our network of electric vehicle (EV) charging points across Elmbridge public car parks.

Electrical Vehicle charger

We are supporting cleaner travel and a more sustainable borough and expanding our network of electric vehicle (EV) charging points to make it easier for residents and visitors to switch to electric vehicles.

Building on existing provision in council-owned pay and display car parks, a rolling programme of new installations will be delivered across the borough. The next phase is expected to be completed by summer 2026 and will include new charging points at:

  • Ashley Road car park, Thames Ditton
  • Halfway car park, Walton-on-Thames
  • Hare Lane car park, Claygate
  • Highwayman’s Cottage car park, Esher
  • Mayfield Road car park, Hersham
  • Station Avenue car park, Walton-on-Thames
  • Walton Road car park, East Molesey

These new charging points will add to the fast (up to 22kW) EV chargers already available at several council car parks and Centres for the Community across Elmbridge.

The expanded network will support residents who do not have access to off-street parking, offering overnight charging options, while also allowing residents and visitors to top up their vehicles during the day.

The council is also working with partners, including Surrey County Council, to support wider improvements to EV charging infrastructure across the county. To find out more, see Surrey County Council: Electric vehicles and on-street chargepoint roll out.

Increasing access to EV charging helps reduce carbon emissions, improve local air quality and supports Elmbridge Borough Council’s commitment to tackling climate change.

Councillor Ashley Tilling, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environmental Services and Sustainability, said:

Expanding access to electric vehicle charging is a practical step towards cleaner travel and a more sustainable Elmbridge. By rolling out more charging points in council car parks across the borough, we are making it easier for residents and visitors, particularly those without off‑street parking, to choose electric vehicles. This investment will help cut carbon emissions, improve local air quality and supports our commitment to tackling climate change while preparing Elmbridge for a greener future.
