Elmbridge Museum’s ‘Echoes of War’ exhibition, on display at the Civic Centre until 27 February, has been given a fresh approach thanks to Year 6 pupils from St Andrew’s C of E Primary School in Cobham, who helped curate the display.
As part of the project, pupils explored real WW2 artefacts and studied archive photographs to understand life on the Home Front. They examined a wide range of objects, discussed their significance and voted on which ones should be included in the exhibition. Each child then created a personal response to their chosen item, either a drawing or a written reflection, which now forms part of the display.
In follow‑up sessions, pupils also recorded messages that appear inside the Morrison shelter installation, an interactive element of the exhibition.
The Elmbridge Museum team said:
The pupils brought fresh curiosity and creativity to Echoes of War. Their ideas and interpretations added real depth to the exhibition, and it’s been a pleasure to see them help shape how our community’s history is told.
Stina Witkowski, Headmistress of St Andrews C of E Primary School, said:
The whole project, from the special workshops, to the recording session today has been a wonderful enrichment opportunity for our children.
