Significant improvement works are underway on Woodstock Lane (South) Claygate, to enhance the area's appearance and functionality. Elmbridge Borough Council's contractors have begun clearing a 150-metre stretch of historically accumulated rubbish and fly-tipped waste from the ditches, aiming to revitalise the local environment.
To date, over 20 tons of waste have been removed. This extensive cleanup effort will continue over the next two weeks.
Starting next week, the project will enter its next phase with the installation of new 2-metre-high earth bunds and CCTV cameras. These measures are designed to deter future instances of fly-tipping, ensuring the area remains clean and well-maintained. The earth bunds will also be planted with wildflowers to make them look great for residents and help attract pollinators like bees and butterflies.
Cllr Ashley Tilling, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environmental Services and Sustainability, said:
"We are committed to safeguarding our community and environment. These improvement works on Woodstock Lane (South) are not just about clearing waste—they're about creating a cleaner, safer, and more attractive space for everyone. With new earth bunds and CCTV, we’re taking firm steps to prevent future fly-tipping and to improve the biodiversity of the area.”
We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these improvements.
