As we bring forward a new model of community support to build a connected community which helps more people in Elmbridge to live well, we are reassuring current Meals on Wheels clients that support will continue.
Currently, around 141 residents receive Meals on Wheels, which are prepared by 5 of the Centres for the Community. The service relies on a team of volunteers to deliver the meals.
It’s important that those residents continue to receive support that meets their immediate need for a warm meal, while also preventing concerns such as loneliness and financial challenges.
As part of the 18-month transition to a new model of community support, we plan to introduce Local Area Coordinators who will work closely with those who need Meals on Wheels to develop a support plan. This will ensure that these residents not only continue to receive a meal – through connections to alternative service providers – but also gain access to support to meet their wider needs.
This is not about stopping support – the transition to the new model will be gradual and carefully managed, with the goal of ensuring that everyone continues to receive the help they need to live well. As a council, we are committed to making sure no one is left without the service they need, delivered through a more sustainable approach.
