Your electricity meter may be affected

From 30 June, the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) is switching off. This could affect your home electricity and hot water supply. Here you can find out about what an RTS meter is, if you're affected and what actions you need to take.

What an RTS meter is

Some homes have an older electricity meter called an RTS meter. These meters use a radio signal to switch meters between peak and off-peak rates. The radio signal that controls these meters is going to be switched off because it has reached the end of its operational life.

How to know if you have an RTS meter

You may have an RTS meter if:

• your home has a separate switch box near your meter with a Radio Teleswitch label on it
• your home is heated using electricity or storage heaters
• there is no gas supply to your area, including households in rural areas and high-rise flats
• you get cheaper energy at different times of day, for example, you might be on an Economy 7, Economy 10, or Total Heat Total Control tariff

Action you can take

If you or someone you know has this type of electricity meter, your energy supplier should have already contacted you to arrange an upgrade. If you have not heard from your supplier, then it's really important to contact them. For more information visit the Ofgem website.
