Interactive learning sessions
Elmbridge Museum offers immersive, bespoke educational experiences to mark Remembrance Day.
For example, on Thursday 6 November, the Museum presented a short talk followed by creative activities for the 4th Weybridge Brownies and delivered ‘Make Do and Mend’ WWII activities at the new Weybridge Hub Library.
The Museum also works with schools and community groups to deliver engaging sessions on WWI and WWII, including:
- Tales from the Front Line: explore a soldier’s kit bag and personal letters
- Life on the Home Front: hear stories of the Brooklands bombings through oral histories and hands-on artefacts
Create your hands-on experience
The Museum hires out handling objects to bring history to life. A WW1 discovery box is available for schools and community groups to hire.
Object in Focus
This year, Elmbridge Museum has selected a poignant object to reflect WWI: an embroidered silk postcard sent by a local soldier. Wartime postcards offer a personal glimpse into the emotional lives of soldiers far from home. These treasured keepsakes remain invaluable in helping us understand the human experience of war and the enduring importance of Remembrance Day.
