We are calling all young eco-champions at local primary schools to take part in this year’s Great Big Green Week Schools Competition, a celebration of what they do locally to support sustainability, creativity, and climate action.
The competition invites schools to showcase their environmental efforts by organising as many green-themed projects and activities as possible during Great Big Green Week (7 to 15 June). From swap shops and litter picks to nature walks, and school gardens, there are many ways for pupils to get involved and make a difference.
The school that demonstrates the highest number of green initiatives will win a renewable energy education kit - a great resource to support ongoing environmental learning.
Participating in the competition is a great way to:
- inspire pupils to take meaningful climate action,
- celebrate your school’s sustainability journey, and
- engage in friendly competition with other local schools.
How to Enter
- Organise as many eco-friendly projects or activities as you can during Great Big Green Week.
- Document your projects: take photos, save lesson plans, and gather any posters or materials created.
- Submit a short summary of your initiatives (on an A4 page), along with supporting evidence, to the Climate Change Team at climatechange@elmbridge.gov.uk
- Deadline: Friday 4 July 2025
Cllr Ashley Tilling, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environmental Services and Sustainability, said, “We are thrilled to launch this year’s Great Big Green Week Schools Competition and invite every primary school in Elmbridge to take part. We know that schools have been working on exciting eco-projects and we can’t wait to see the inspiring and creative ways in which children champion sustainability and climate action”.
