’Tis the season to be jolly and to plant trees!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve planted 219 native trees across several local green spaces:
- the open area near Three Rivers Academy and Bell Farm Schools in Hersham
- Summer Road in Thames Ditton
- West End Recreation Ground in Esher
- Grovelands Recreation Ground in Molesey
- Esher Common
These trees, including cherry, crab apple, field maple, hornbeam and more, will increase biodiversity and create welcoming spaces for both the community and wildlife.
We were thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout at our Community Planting Event at Grovelands recreation ground, Molesey on 30 November, and our amazing conservation volunteers helped plant 96 whips on Esher Common on Tuesday 2 December, creating the beginnings of young woodland for future generations to enjoy.
We want to give the trees, especially those planted in local recreation grounds, the best chance to thrive. They’ll need watering during dry spells, so if you’d like to help with their care, please get in touch with the Greenspaces team.
Interested in doing more? There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in local conservation projects across the borough, helping to build biodiversity and protect our countryside. Check out volunteering opportunities on Esher, Weybridge and Claygate Commons.
