At the beginning of Pride month in June, we were thrilled to launch the Elmbridge Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy.
Our EDI Strategy outlines a step up in our aspiration and commitment towards reducing inequality throughout all our communities across Elmbridge.
In presenting this strategy, we recognise that treating everyone the same and providing equal opportunities is not sufficient in building an inclusive Elmbridge.
We all face different barriers to opportunity in life, and there are parts of our community who still face systemic discrimination and prejudice. As such we acknowledge the need to provide additional support to those who need it most.
The strategy is significantly shaped not just by council equality, diversity and inclusion champions, but by conversations with local community groups who work to achieve this every day in relation to all of the protected characteristics and pledge to continue that engagement as we move from strategy to action.
