Parks and play areas

Service updates in relation Covid-19

Please note that we are following government and police guidance to keep everyone safe. The government guidance clearly states that you should:

  • stay local and use open spaces near to your home where possible – do not travel unnecessarily.

  • only go outside alone or with members of your own household

  • keep at least 2 metres apart from anyone outside your household at all times

  • gatherings of more than two in parks or other public spaces have been banned and the police will enforce this

  • take hygiene precautions when you are outside, and wash your hands as soon as you are back indoors

  • if walking your dog in areas used by other people, you should walk your dog on a lead to ensure you can safely keep 2 metres away from others.

Please follow the police advice: driving to and from home to take exercise or walk your dog is non-essential travel.

For further details:

Every person in the UK must comply with these measures, which came into effect on Monday 23 March. The relevant authorities, including the police, have been given the powers to enforce them – including through fines and dispersing gatherings.

Access to car parks in Arbrook Lane, Green Lane, Browns corner and the Oxshott Heath Car Park next to the station cannot be physically blocked for safety reasons or because of their size, however, please do not park there. They are being monitored by the police.

The other green spaces car parks remain open but will be closing daily at 6pm instead of the usual later closing time. This is due to reduced levels of staff.

Access to open and green spaces

Please strictly follow the government guidance: use open spaces including parks to exercise once a day - running, walking or cycling – alone or with members of your household. Do not gather there in groups. Stop all gatherings of more than two people in public, excluding people you live with.

If people do not respect the social distancing guidance and therefore put each other at risk of potentially spreading or catching the virus, we will have to review access to the parks and open spaces on a case by case basis and in line with government guidance.

Closure of play areas, green gyms, basket-ball and tennis courts

All gated playgrounds and green gyms are now closed. Please stay away from open playgrounds for your own safety and do not to try and access playgrounds and green gyms. Please take responsibility for your own safety and stay safe.

Green spaces maintenance

Our contractors G Burleys have made the decision to keep a limited number of staff on duty to carry on delivering a range of services to keep your local open spaces as tidy and welcoming as possible:

  • Grass cutting to parks to keep areas open for exercise time

  • Litter picking service will also continue for people enjoying the open spaces. If you see overflowing bins, please help our maintenance staff by taking your litter home to dispose of.

Grass verge cutting is carried out to maintain sight lines on the highway, so the roads are safe to continue to be used for the many deliveries and key worker journeys required on a daily basis.

As the situation evolves, there might be further changes to services and we will keep you updated.
