Coronavirus (COVID-19) statement
24 March 2020
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and in line with government guidance on restricting “non-essential” contact, our handyperson service is operating on a restricted basis with limited home visits, until further notice. However, to support the NHS, our handyperson will continue to carry out small jobs at residents’ homes so that they can be safely discharged from hospital.
For further information, please see our Coronavirus (COVID-19) page.
Many older and vulnerable people find it difficult to carry out odd jobs around the home and don’t have anybody they can ask to help.
Care and Repair Elmbridge (CARE) have a handyperson who has been DBS checked and offers an affordable and reliable service.
Examples of the work undertaken include minor plumbing repairs, fitting shelves, installing smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and fitting grab rails or banisters. Many other types of work can be undertaken, provided that they take no longer than one hour.
This service is open to homeowners or private tenants in Elmbridge who are either; aged 70 or more; disabled; are vulnerable in some other way or are on means tested benefits.
We cannot offer a same day service but we aim to complete most jobs within two working days. Sometimes, it may be up to two weeks before we can carry out the work, dependent on the demand for the service and availability of materials.
The standard charge is £22.50, however those in receipt of a means-tested benefit, like Pension Credit, will be charged at the lower rate of £11.30 per hour. All materials are charged at cost.
The handyperson can also fit key safes. These cost £56.30.
We will always discuss your needs and costs with you before any work is carried out.
Our handyperson will carry personal identification. For your safety, please make sure that you ask to see identification before allowing anyone entry into your home, and if in doubt contact CARE on 01372 474645.
