COVID-19 service status

Due to the closure of our Centres for the Community, the Dementia Services Social Groups are currently closed. In order to safeguard the wellbeing of our clients and carers, we have also suspended our monthly support group and social evening, which were held at the Claygate Centre.

Our Dementia Services Team remains committed to supporting our carers and clients during this time and are identifying how best to support our clients with welfare checks and a buddy shopping to help provide shopping and prescription collection.

Our team are experienced Dementia Care specialists and will do everything to support our customers and carers with their unique needs.

Referrals will be made to external agencies where deemed appropriate to offer further support, advice and information.

For more information, please see our Coronavirus (COVID-19) page.

Our services

Social clubs

  • A day at one of our groups can be hugely beneficial to people living with dementia, as well as their carers, who can take a break knowing their loved one is looked after.

  • Our groups are run by specialists and volunteers who focus on the strengths and abilities of the person with dementia, to provide activities that will be engaging and suitable for everyone.

  • Each group has its own personality, following our ethos of living well with dementia. Members enjoy a range of activities and socialise in a safe and welcoming environment.

  • A freshly cooked lunch is provided along with drinks and snacks.

  • For those who are unable to make it to the groups, we provide door-to-door transport to your nearest group.

  • We understand that people may be reluctant to attend day groups, so we offer the opportunity to visit and view any of our groups before you decide to join.

  • Attendance of the groups is subject to assessment, at your own home, to ensure we know as much as possible about our new member; understanding their preferences, life history and expectations so that their time with us is meaningful.

  • Cost: The current cost for our activity groups is £39 per session, including lunch and any refreshments. Transport can be provided at an additional £6 per day.

  • Contact us: email dementiaservices@elmbridge.gov.uk or call us on 01372 474547.

Sitting service

  • Our sitting service provides companionship and support for people with dementia, either at home or taking them out for short trips. This gives their carer a few hours away from home to relax, meet friends or attend appointments.

  • Cost:  Each sitting appointment costs £16 per hour plus an additional mileage rate.

  • Contact us: email dementiaservices@elmbridge.gov.uk or call us on 01372 474547.

Carers support group

  • Being a carer can be a 24-hour job and can leave you feeling lonely or isolated. Our monthly support group offers a safe and supportive environment to share your stress and worries with other carers and our trained staff.

  • The group runs on the third Thursday of the month, from 10.30am – 12 noon, at the Claygate Centre for the Community

  • Contact us: email dementiaservices@elmbridge.gov.uk or call us on 01372 474547.

Quarterly outings

  • Our seasonal outings are a chance for members and their families to create memories and live well with dementia. We organise the outings including transport and tickets, you just need to say yes!

  • Each outing is accompanied by a trained member of staff to ensure everything goes smoothly.

  • Theatre trips, lunch on steam train or a boat ride along the Thames are just some examples of what is on offer.

Free carers training programme

  • Our annual 8-week course is held every spring, and is perfect for those caring for someone at any stage of the dementia journey.

  • The course covers a range of topics from dementia diagnosis and medication, moving and handling to financial and legal advice, all provided by health and social care professionals.

  • The course is free of charge and is held on Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Thames Ditton Centre for the Community.

  • After each session there will be a light lunch and the chance to chat to trainers and other carers.

  • For those with caring commitments, our experienced staff can look after your loved one while you attend the training.
