Food hygiene issue or complaint

The types of issues and complaints we can investigate and how to report them.

We investigate complaints about:

  • poor food hygiene practices
  • food that is contaminated
  • food that is unfit to eat

We can only investigate complaints about food that was eaten or purchased in the borough of Elmbridge.

Report an issue or complaint

To report a food hygiene issue or complaint, email envhealth@elmbridge.gov.uk.

What happens next

All complaints are considered by an officer to decide if an investigation is necessary.

With food complaints it is useful to have a sample of the food the complaint is about.

We will ask you to sign a form to confirm you want us to investigate a problem.

We do not pass on any of your details to businesses we investigate without your agreement. Frequently the defective food will be returned to the manufacturer for examination.

If we think the case may need to go to court, we will ask if you’re happy to give an official witness statement.

If you provide your contact details, we can tell you the outcome of your complaint.
