Overview
Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is used to work out how much Housing Benefit someone gets if they rent privately. For more information on how LHA is worked out, see Local Housing Allowance (LHA).
There are some exclusions from LHA. These are:
- tenancies which are excluded from current rent restrictions
- tenancies in caravans, houseboats and hostels
- tenancies where the rent officer decides that a substantial part of the rent is for board and attendance, such as hotel accommodation
The eligible rent for these tenancies is decided by the Valuation Office.
