Insurance claims

How to submit an insurance claim against the council.

If an incident occurs and you consider that it was caused as a result of Elmbridge Borough Council, you may be able to claim compensation.

You will need to provide:

  • full details of the incident (including accurate dates, location and details of the incident) so that we can investigate the claim thoroughly
  • evidence of the loss sustained by providing us with defect photographs and invoices or estimates for the damaged items

Complete the Public Liability Insurance Claim Form

Highways claims

For highways-related claims, see Surrey County Council: Highways insurance claims.

Once we have received your claim form

We aim to acknowledge receipt of any property damage claims within 10 working days.

For injury claims, we aim to notify our insurer within 7 days, and they will subsequently acknowledge your claim.

All claims will then be thoroughly investigated, and contact will be made if any further information is required. Once the investigation is completed, a liability decision will be provided in writing. We aim to communicate this decision within 3 months of our acknowledgement.
