Clean energy

We use a lot of energy in our homes throughout the year. See what changes you can make in your home.

Do more while doing less at home

At home there are many ways you can reduce emissions.

Air Source Heat pumps (ASHP)

An air source heat pump transfers heat from the outside air to the water in your central heating system. By converting free energy from the air, it helps you save money on your fuel bills.

You need to consider several factors when installing an air source heat pump: how you store water, space to install and the type of ASHP appropriate for your home. For more information and advice,  please visit Action Surrey.

Want to know more?

Nesta have delivered a project which enables people to see a heat pump working in real homes and learn more about what it’s like to have one from current owners. If you want to see a heat pump in action and understand the journey taken to install one, please find homes in Elmbridge that you can book to visit.

Test your energy use knowledge

How much electricity is used while electronics are on standby?

In the average home, 75% of the electricity used to power electronics is consumed while the products are on standby.

What percentage of a household electricity bill does the fridge freezer account for?

A fridge freezer can account for up to 5% of a household annual electricity bill. If you defrost it frequently, it can save both energy and money.

How can you reduce heat loss from radiators?

Heat can be lost through walls that radiators face, if they are un-insulated. If you stick radiator reflectors behind them, you can save yourself money and keep your house warm.
