The Elmbridge exercise referral programme, delivered by Places Leisure at the Xcel Leisure Complex, supports inactive adults with medical conditions by helping them become more active in a safe, personalised way.
Who it is for
The exercise referral scheme is for people recovering from:
- ill health
- cancer
- cardiac conditions
- injuries
How the scheme can support you
Regular physical activity can:
- improve weight management
- boost mental wellbeing
- support heart health
- increase muscle and joint mobility
- help manage or prevent long-term health conditions
How to join the scheme
You can be referred by your:
- GP
- nurse
- consultant
- physiotherapist
- social prescriber
- other medical practitioner
If you meet the eligibility criteria, they will complete an electronic referral form on your behalf.
If you’re self-referring, you also need to ask your GP to complete a referral form.
Note: Paper referral forms are no longer accepted.
What happens next
Once the Xcel exercise referral team receives your electronic referral, they will contact you within 48 hours to arrange your first appointment.
Membership options
Choose from:
- referral Membership: £29.00 per month
- pay as you go: £15 admin fee, then:
- £3.10 gym sessions
- £1.40 swimming
- £4 to £5 referral classes
What is included
With the membership, you get access to the gym, pool and all classes, including exercise referral sessions. You will receive:
- a personalised activity programme
- guidance on becoming more active
- check-in appointments at week 1, week 6 and week 12 to review progress and adjust your plan
About the classes
Classes are available at the Xcel leisure complex in Walton and at local centres for the community under the scheme. Contact the referral team for times and locations.
