Who we are and what we do
The Government wants to enable more people to build or commission their own home. Elmbridge Borough Council’s Planning Services Self and Custom Build register aims to provide an indication of the demand for self or custom build in Elmbridge. The Council is required to have due regard to the level of demand indicated by this register when undertaking its planning and asset management responsibilities (e.g. if/when it is disposing of any land).

What we need
We collect and store your contact details including your name, address, postcode, email address and telephone number (should you give it) together with details about your household, the type of site that would suit your requirements and information about what you are likely to want to afford.
Why we need it
We collect the details under the ‘What we need’ section as they will enable us to gain a clear picture of your wishes and type of site that would meet your requirements. The register will provide an indication of the demand for self/custom build in Elmbridge and will allow the Council to work to develop a range of suitable sites for development.
What we do with it
If you are registered the Council will let you know if or when we have a suitable site that meets your requirements.
The information that you have provided will be held by the Council and will only be accessed by authorised Council employees.
We will only use the information that you have provided for the purpose stated in the ‘Why we need it’ section, and will not use it for any other Council purpose, unless we have your consent, or this is provided by law.
We may ask you separately for your permission to provide you with information about other Council services, and if you agree, how you would like to receive that information. But you do not have to give your permission to receive these details, and it is not a condition of your application.
How long we keep it
Your personal data will be held on our database unless you ask us to be removed from the register. If you wish to be taken off our database please email your request to Planning Policy.
