Getting the kerb lowered outside your property

To get a kerb lowered outside your property you will need permission from Surrey County Council, but they will first need written confirmation from us as the local planning authority that planning permission is not required for the works. To obtain this confirmation please complete the form below.

Planning permission

If planning permission is required for your dropped kerb or hard surface, please apply online using the Planning Portal. If you require certainty that planning permission is not required for your proposal, you should apply for a Lawful Development Certificate. This is a formal decision from Elmbridge Borough Council that is sometimes required by banks, building societies etc if they are lending against the value of the works or solicitors when you come to sell the property.

For more information on Lawful Development Certificates and how to get one see guidance from the Planning Portal below.
