Remembrance day parades grant

Funding is available to support remembrance parades.

We have been allocated funding to a Civic Fund to support remembrance parades.

The aim of the grant is to financially support community led remembrance events to enable Elmbridge residents to show their respects to those who lost their lives in conflict.

Who can apply?

Applications will be accepted from external partners including not-for-profit organisations, third sector and faith sector organisations operating in Elmbridge that will organise a fully inclusive remembrance parade within one of our towns or villages.

Grant criteria

This is an annual grant which needs to be applied for each year.

To be eligible, the applicant must organise a Remembrance Day parade on Remembrance Sunday.  The applicant must ensure they will meet all the criteria needed to obtain a temporary road closure order, and apply within the timeframes stated.

As part of acceptance of the grant, the organisation will agree to include in any literature or publicity that the event has been supported by the Elmbridge Civic Fund, together with the council’s logo.

Information about the parade may be publicised on the council website and in public material for publicity purposes. Personal information will not be disclosed without the prior agreement of those concerned.

About the grant

The grant will cover items that are required to organise a remembrance parade. Examples include:

  • signage and roadside equipment
  • PPE
  • Public Liability Insurance – cover must be based on the amount advised by Elmbridge Borough Council risk officer
  • marshals
  • traffic or signage plans

All items must be directly related to the event.

The grant will not accept applications for the following:

  • wages or gifts for volunteers
  • travel expenses
  • any other items that are deemed ineligible for organising a remembrance parade

Grant amount

There is no maximum amount any one event can apply for; however, the application must ideally include copies of quotations to support the amount that will be required to organise a parade.

Applications

Applications for remembrance parades in 2025 closed on Sunday 13 April.

Assessment of applications

Your application will be assessed by the Elmbridge Remembrance Parade Group, made up of representatives from Elmbridge services.

It is not anticipated that the funding will be oversubscribed.  However, if necessary, a scoring plan will be drawn up prior to assessing the applications.  This will be available upon request.

We may ask you to provide further information. The application and any additional information will be presented to the decision-making body, and you will be informed of the decision. There is no right of appeal.

It is anticipated that applicants will be informed of the decision by Friday 2 May 2025. Applicants will be kept informed in the event of a decision being delayed.

After the grant is given

Organisations will need to provide evidence that the grant was spent as per the application. This will need to be provided 30 days after the event has taken place.
