Pest control

What to do if a neighbouring property has a rat or mice infestation.

If rodents from a neighbouring property are affecting your home

If you think rats or mice from a neighbouring property are affecting your home, you should:

  • arrange treatment for any infestation in your own property
  • inform the owner or occupier of the neighbouring property, so they can investigate and deal with any infestation on their land

Householders are responsible for dealing with pest infestations on their own property and land. We do not provide a pest control service.

If you need a pest control contractor, see The British Pest Control Association.

If the neighbouring property does not deal with the infestation

If the owner or occupier does not deal with the issue, we may take action to make sure their land and property are kept free from rats and mice.

Before we can take action, you will need to provide a copy of the pest control contractor’s report issued following treatment at your property.
