New community fund available for carbon reduction projects and to improve sustainability in Elmbridge

Elmbridge Community Climate Action Fund

Since we declared a climate emergency in 2019, climate change and sustainability have been fundamental to our work, and we remain committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

We know that many local community groups and organisations share our ambition to create a greener future for our borough. We want them to get involved and help us deliver a thriving and sustainable Elmbridge that will benefit the whole community.

We are launching a new Elmbridge Community Climate Action Fund (ECCAF) to empower them to deliver projects that will make a tangible difference in one or more of the following areas:

  • carbon emission reduction education
  • energy reduction, efficiency, and renewable generation
  • water and waste reduction
  • biodiversity enhancement
  • active travel

Up to £5,000 is available to apply for.

We welcome projects that involve the wider community and encourage others to take action. Examples of projects/activities that can be funded are available on our ECCAF web page. If you have any other projects in mind, our Climate Change team  will be able to advise on eligibility.

We welcome applications from non-profit organisations or groups based in Elmbridge and primarily focused on serving the residents of Elmbridge. They can include charities, sustainability focus community groups, community organisations, schools, faith groups, sports clubs/centres, village halls, Scouts/Girl Guides, etc.

Applications can be made for the full amount or part funding of a project. If the funding requested is for a portion of the project, evidence of match funding from third parties and own funding from the organisation will be required to provide evidence that the project can be delivered.

Councillor Ashley Tilling, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Environmental Services and Sustainability, said, “We want every community group committed to climate change to consider applying. Projects driven by the community can make a huge difference to reduce the impact of climate change locally. Everybody can make a valuable contribution to help protect the environment. We look forward to reviewing your projects and working together towards a greener and sustainable Elmbridge”.

Application deadlines

The 2024-2025 ECCAF funding round is open from Tuesday 9 July 2024 and applications must be completed and submitted by midnight on Sunday 1 September 2024. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

We will provide support and advice throughout the application process.

All applications will be assessed on an individual basis.

For help with your application, please email climatechange@elmbridge.go.uk or visit our ECCAF web page.
