A Parliamentary Boundary Review is currently underway and an electoral review took place for Elmbridge in 2016.
Parliamentary Boundary Review 2023
Following the passing of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 2020, and the publication of the relevant Parliamentary electorate data in January 2021, the Boundary Commission for England began a new review of all Parliamentary constituencies in England. They are required to report final recommendations by 1 July 2023.
There are currently two parliamentary constituencies covering the Elmbridge area - Esher and Walton, and part of Runnymede and Weybridge. These are in the southeast region, which will increase from 84 to 91 constituencies as part of the 2023 Review.
Consultation
The first public consultation on the initial proposals took place in the summer 2021 and The Boundary Commission for England have published responses to the initial proposals. A second consultation took place from 22 February to 4 April 2022.
Revised proposals were published on 8 November 2022 and were followed by a third and final four week written consultation.
Public consultation has now closed, and the Boundary Commission are considering the responses received to the consultation before making their final report and recommendations to Parliament by 1 July 2023.
Electoral review for Elmbridge 2016
Following the council's request to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England to undertake an Electoral Review for Elmbridge, the Commission published its final recommendations for new electoral arrangements for Elmbridge Borough Council.
The Commission's final recommendations were that Elmbridge be represented by 48 councillors: twelve fewer than the previous arrangement. Those councillors will represent sixteen three-member wards across the borough, delivering electoral equality for voters across the Borough.
The Commission's publication followed an eight-week public consultation on its draft proposals and draws new boundaries for each council ward across Elmbridge. The new electoral arrangements were implemented at the local elections on 5 May 2016.
