Direct debit
Direct debit is the most popular way to pay. Over 75% of council tax payments are paid by direct debit.

If your direct debit payment is from an account that needs more than one signatory, please download the direct debit form and return it to us by post
Collection dates for direct debit
Your council tax instalments will be collected automatically. You can choose to pay on the 1st, 10th or 20th of the month (or the first working day after if a weekend or bank holiday).
Your first direct debit payment
Before taking your first payment, we will send you a new council tax bill confirming the instalment dates and amounts. By law we cannot collect a direct debit less than 14 days from it being set up.
Debit card payment
To pay your council tax by debit card, you will need to provide your council tax account number. Your 8 digit account number will begin with a "2" and can be found at the top of your bill.

A note on credit card payments
From 13 January 2018 new rules came into effect banning companies from charging any fees on card payments; this also applies to local authorities and other government agencies such as HMRC. As a result, the council would have to pay for the cost of credit cards so from this date we no longer accept credit cards for the payment of council tax and business rates.
