Small business rate relief

This relief is aimed at helping small businesses and is based on the rateable value of your business and the number of business properties you occupy. Relief can only be granted on one property.

If you meet the eligibility criteria but have not received the relief please notify us using the form above. You will need the business rate account number and post code of the property.

Additional information

  • Empty properties do not qualify.

  • Ratepayers in receipt of other mandatory relief do not qualify.

  • You must notify us within 28 days of changes in circumstances that may affect your entitlement to relief, e.g. if you take up occupation of an additional property or an increase in the rateable value of a property occupied in another Council’s area.

  • If you make a false declaration you may be fined, imprisoned or both.  

 Business rates grant fund

The Government has announced two support schemes:

  • Small business grant fund
  • Retail, hospitality and leisure grant fund

We are aware of those businesses in the borough, who may be eligible for these support schemes and we are in the process of sending letters about how to apply, to the business address.
