Rethink Waste
We've launched a new initiative to tackle waste in Elmbridge. The partnership between Elmbridge Borough Council (EBC), Joint Waste Solutions (JWS) and Greenredeem provides residents with a new digital platform that will encourage waste reduction.
Doing our bit to be more green and help tackle climate change has never been more important. The new platform gives residents the tools to make small lifestyle changes that will empower them to make a big difference. Residents who sign up will receive a personalised experience, through which they will learn how to reduce waste and get rewarded for it.
The platform provides fun weekly activities (including videos, quizzes, blogs and pledges) with solutions for how to reduce waste at home and out and about. By participating in these activities residents will get rewarded with points. They can use those points to get something back for themselves or donate to their community.
Greenredeem will also be measuring the weight of rubbish picked up by bin collection crews to see if there have been any reductions. If there have been, more points will be awarded!
There’s something for everyone. Other benefits include:
- Competitions – every few weeks members can enter the prize draw with the chance to win fantastic prizes, such as vouchers, iPads, smart watches or TV’s (many of which are eco-friendly, refurbished versions).
- Charitable donations – points can be turned into cash and donated to local schools and community groups to help fund local environmental projects.
- Carbon tracker – some waste reduction activities have a direct saving on carbon emissions. The tracker provides members with a better understanding of how their actions reduce the impact on the planet and help fight climate change. Residents can track progress and will receive badges as a reward for their achievements.
- Zero waste map – members can find places near to them such as refill stations and charity/secondhand shops that will help them reduce, reuse, and recycle more waste in their area.
- Eco shop and rewards – members can explore Greenredeem approved eco-friendly products and access other online discounts and rewards.
