Temporary walks and cycle rides programme (during coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic)
We can now welcome participants back onto the scheme for a limited programme of favourite walks. However, we can only accommodate from 8 to 16 people per walk, including the walk leader. Please check the programme to find out how many participants can take part in your chosen walk.
To ensure that each walk or cycle ride is not over-subscribed, we must book a place on each walk using our online booking system*. If you have not booked a place, you won't be able to join the walk. Please make sure you read the booking instructions and terms and conditions before you make your bookings:
If you find it difficult to book online or need to cancel a booking, please call 01372 474574 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bookings close at 9am the day before the walk is due to take place. For Monday walks, this will be 9am Friday. After this time, call 01372 474 574 or email email@example.com to find out if there are still spaces available on your chosen walk.
Due to COVID-19, everyone needs to take steps to stay safe. Please follow all safety advice given by the walk leader, and keep the relevant distance from anyone outside your household or social bubble.
*Please note: to offer a temporary online booking system for healthy walks and cycle rides during COVID-19, we have 'borrowed' our Shout children's holiday programme booking system. The wording will be different from that you would expect. Apologies for this. Please ignore all reference to payment. Healthy walks and cycles are free to take part in. No payment details are required to make a booking.
Healthy walks background
We've been organising healthy walks and Nordic walks since 2003 with both regular and new people joining us weekly. Walks are a good way to get together with friends, old and new, be outside and explore your community. We are certain that we can introduce you to some footpaths you didn't know existed.
With the 'Walking for Health' scheme, you can take part in a free short walk or Nordic walk near you to help you get active at a pace that works for you. We offer free walks of varying distance and pace lasting from 30 minutes to 3 hours. These occur all around the Borough just about every day of the year.
The Elmbridge healthy walks are an accredited scheme running in partnership with Sport England, Peoples Postcode Lottery and Ramblers.
Our healthy walks are free to join.
- We have a varied and full schedule of walks that take place most days, even Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
- Choose from slow, moderate or brisk paced, and opt for a flat, sloped or hilly walk.
- Walks are classified by pace, gradient and length of time.
- All walks are less than 3 miles long.
If you would like to receive a copy of the programme please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01372 474574.
Walked at a moderate pace. Bring poles if you have them but they are not essential. There will be an instructor led warm up before the walk.
All our walks are led by volunteers, some have been volunteering since 2003 and others joined us just a few months ago. If, after a few walks with us, you feel it is something you would like to do, follow the link to our healthy walks volunteer page.
"It's a lovely feeling when everyone says how much they have enjoyed the walk. And they are always amazed that I get them back without getting lost!" Karen, Volunteer Walk Leader since 2003.

Richmond and Kingston also run programmes throughout the year. Why not have a look at the links below and join them for a walk?
