Walton Business Improvement District

The Walton Business Improvement District (BID), is a not-for-profit organisation where businesses in the town centre have come together to improve the trading environment for mutual commercial success.

The BID was set up for businesses, by businesses, to support the town centre and ultimately hopes to invest approximately £1,000,000 over five years to make Walton-on-Thames a great place to shop, live, work and do business. Following an independent postal ballot, the result on 13 March 2020 declared that Walton businesses had voted in favour of establishing the BID. Given the circumstances around the ongoing pandemic, the BID board agreed to postpone the launch until 1 March 2021 - the maximum 12 months allowed for a BID to launch by the national legislation.

Background and plans for the future

Walton BID Ltd has been set up as a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee and is governed by a board of directors made up of representatives from businesses within the town centre who are responsible for delivering the objectives as set out in the business plan to:

  • Deliver marketing, events and promotional activity to help raise the profile of the town and all it has to offer
  • Improve people’s experience and perceptions of Walton by helping deliver a safe and welcoming town
  • Ensure the town is easy to navigate, addressing issues of accessibility, parking and sustainability
  • Unite businesses to work collectively for mutual success, reduce costs, and act as a representative voice of the Walton business community
