Spring has sprung!

In celebration of National Gardening Week from 30 April-5 May 2018, the Centres for the Community have been in full bloom with a variety of gardening themed activities and projects.

Members of Thames Ditton Centre for the Community took part in plant pot painting, with an array of beautiful designs created on the day. Each member was also given a pack of poppy seeds to help fill gardens and homes with spring-time flowers.

For residents with green fingers, the Thames Ditton Centre for the Community also offers the Men in Sheds project every Monday and Thursday for volunteers. The Centre hosts a fully equipped shed with tools to start projects such as garden planters, bird houses and more.

Residents who enjoy being surrounded by the blooming spring-time flowers can also enjoy the community gardens at the Molesey and Walton Centres the Community. Centres are a perfect place to meet friends and relax while having a cup of tea and cake. The Molesey Centre community garden has recently undergone major gardening and horticultural work so there has never been a better time to visit. The official launch of this community garden is taking place on 15 June from 11am-12.15pm and residents are invited to attend this event.

It is not just the Centres for the Community that have the gardening bug. Each week throughout the spring and summer months, the Cobham Link group volunteer at the Elmbridge Community Link allotment. Based at the Cobham Centre for the Community, Cobham Link supports people with mild to moderate learning disabilities from across the Borough and members help grow fresh produce, fruits and flowers for the local community.
Councillor Andrew Burley the Portfolio Holder for Community & Social Affairs said: “Spring and summer are such wonderful times of the year throughout Elmbridge, including our Centres for the Community. If you would like to find out more about our community gardens, become a Men in Sheds volunteer or enquire about our Cobham Link group, why not pop in and speak to one of the Centre Managers”.
