Other support available
- Self-employment Income Support Scheme grant extension
This grant is being extending by the Government to support freelancers and the self-employed through to April 2021.
Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme extension
This has been extended until December 2020 with employees receiving 80% of their current salary for hours not worked.
Provides funding to employers to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit.
Protection from eviction for commercial tenants extended
Commercial tenants who cannot pay rent because of COVID-19 are protected from eviction until the end of 2020. Please note this is not a rental holiday - all commercial tenants will still be liable for the rent.
Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme
This scheme enables businesses to apply for a loan of up to £5 million. It is available to smaller businesses (SMEs) across the UK that are losing revenue, and seeing their cashflow disrupted, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
HMRC Time to Pay and helpline
A dedicated helpline 0300 200 3822 and an online support webpage has been set up to help both businesses and the self-employed. If you are in financial distress and with outstanding tax liabilities due to COVID-19 you may be able to receive support with your tax affairs and businesses may be able to agree a bespoke Time to Pay arrangement.
COVID-19 Corporate Financing Facility - support for larger firms
Under this new facility, the Bank of England will buy short term debt from larger companies to support them if they have been affected by a short-term funding squeeze and allow them to finance short term liabilities.
Businesses that have cover for both pandemics and government ordered closure should be covered, as the government and insurance industry confirmed on 17 March 2020 that advice to avoid pubs, theatres etc. is sufficient to make a claim as long as all other terms and conditions are met. Businesses are encouraged to check the terms and conditions of their specific policy and contact their providers.

Temporary business rates retail discount
The government introduced a business rates holiday for retail, hospitality, nursery and leisure businesses in England for the 2020 to 2021 tax year. Our business rates page is updated regularly.
To support the community and local retailers providing essential products, Elmbridge Borough Council will be taking its lead from Government and not enforcing any breaches in planning conditions related to out of hours deliveries.
