In glorious sunshine, the event at Cowey Sale, Walton-on-Thames saw an impressive turnout as residents gathered together to enjoy the wide range of activities on offer and celebrate all things Elmbridge. The event generated widespread interest in the many organisations and sports clubs in attendance, and even amassed a whole host of sign-ups from some very excited young residents.
The attendance of Surrey Police and Surrey Fire and Rescue marked an important step forward in the efforts to raise awareness of water safety across the Borough, through the unveiling of their new water safety sign. Additionally, their new throw rope was introduced, prompting the Mayor of Elmbridge, Cllr Shweta Kapadia, to attempt a demonstration of its use-much to the delight of the onlookers. Additionally, the presence of both the police van and fire engine inspired some potential young recruits.
The Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Shweta Kapadia was enthusiastic about the day’s proceedings: “I was delighted to be a part of this fantastic event. It was lovely to see so many residents there enjoying themselves as well as finding out more about the local community. It was a great opportunity for everyone to learn about water safety, especially for the young people, some of whom practiced throwing the rope into the river”.
Residents embraced the opportunity to learn more about the selfless work of charity and volunteer groups across the Borough and the local food stalls and businesses offered some exciting and very welcome sustenance.
Overall the event was a great success thanks to all those residents who attended.
