Falls prevention morning

Feeling shaky?
Come to a free falls prevention morning at Claygate Centre for the Community

On Thursday 31 January from 9.30-11.30am, Elmbridge Borough Council, Central Surrey Health and Walsingham Care will be hosting a free falls prevention morning at Claygate Centre for the Community. The event is aimed at anyone living in either Claygate, Cobham, Molesey or Thames Ditton who has recently experienced a fall, or is unsteady on their feet and concerned about falling.

Falls are the most frequent and serious type of accident reported in people over the age of 65, resulting in more than four million hospital bed days each year in England alone. The long-term effects of a serious fall can be life-altering, leading to a loss of confidence, reduced independence and increased isolation.

Attendees can take part in a free strength and balance class on the day, find out the most common causes of falls, and receive advice from local experts on:

  • Community alarm and technology solutions, including falls detectors

  • Local falls prevention classes

  • Information on home adaptations from the Care and Repair Team

  • Community support services available in the Borough

  • Connecting with local organisations and additional Elmbridge services to help residents stay independent

Councillor Andrew Burley, Portfolio Holder for Community & Social Affairs, says: “When it comes to falls prevention it’s the small changes that can make a real difference. If you have recently had a fall, or you are worried about falling, I would encourage you to attend the Falls Prevention Morning on 31 January”.
