The seventh Elmbridge Independent Retailer of the Year Awards has revealed the outstanding independent businesses in our high streets.
Throughout July residents voted for their favourite independent retailers across seven categories. A new category for 2019 recognised retailers which have gone the extra mile for the environment.
Feedback from residents highlighted the exceptional customer service and high quality products and services they consistently receive from their favourite high street independents.
The winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony on Tuesday 20 August. The awards ceremony was part of a free Elmbridge Business Network event which included a marketing skills masterclass from Walton-based The Marketing Matrix. More than 40 local businesses took advantage of this networking and skills development opportunity.
Councillor Christine Elmer, Portfolio Holder for Community and Corporate Development, said;
“The retail awards have highlighted the value which independent retailers provide to their local area. Feedback has emphasised the personal nature of their customer service and the individual character brought to each high street by its variety of independent businesses. I am pleased to see so many different business types nominated for the first ‘green business of the year award’, which underlines the collective effort of our independent businesses to tackle this crucial issue.
The Council is committed to supporting our town and village centres and I hope independent retailers take advantage of the opportunities available to them, from free Elmbridge Business Network events to our business grant scheme. Please do contact our team who are always happy to discuss the support on offer.
Our high streets are packed full of unique experiences and I encourage residents to discover the full range of exceptional independent retailers in our communities.”
