Elmbridge Borough Council is offering funding for digital growth to independent high street retailers through the creation of a new grant scheme.
The Elmbridge Digital High Street Fund offers funding towards the establishment or upgrading of e-commerce websites. The scheme is open to independent retailers located within the defined primary or secondary frontage of a town centre or high street. Funding of up to 90% of eligible costs - up to a maximum of £2,000 - is available.
Independent retailers can further develop their digital skills through a free Elmbridge Business Network masterclass event on Friday 25 October at the Civic Centre in Esher. From 8-9am Guildford-based marketing experts Delivered Social will deliver a presentation on how to make your website and social media work for you. Free 1-1 social media clinics are also available throughout the day. Businesses can sign up for the event online at Eventbrite.
Councillor Christine Elmer, Portfolio Holder for Community and Corporate Development, said: “Independent retailers are facing a number of challenges, one of which is the disruption of the traditional physical high street by the growth of online shopping. Small independent retailers often lack the resources and skills to benefit from the opportunities presented by online retail, while larger businesses are able to adapt more quickly. Helping local retailers close this digital gap is a key aspect of the Council’s plan for maintaining the vitality of our high streets. I encourage independent retailers to take advantage of this opportunity to boost their digital presence – please do get in touch with our team who can signpost you to the full range of support on offer.”
