To mark Carers’ Week from 11-17 June 2018, Elmbridge Borough Council’s Relief Carers Scheme is gearing up for a series of events aimed at raising awareness and providing support to carers in the Borough. The Relief Carers Scheme offers services and specialist day groups for people living with memory loss or confusion, and support services for their carers.
Across the UK it is estimated that more than 6.5 million people currently provide some form of unpaid care for a loved one. From this number, research suggests that many feel their caring role is frequently misunderstood and devalued by their community, leading to feelings of isolation and loneliness. To help recognise the valuable contribution carers make to friends, family and the local community the Relief Carers Scheme will be welcoming carers from across Elmbridge to information and social events.
