A Small Society Lottery is a lottery that is promoted for the benefit of a non-commercial society (such as a charity or similar non-profit making organisation) to raise funds for any of the purposes for which the society or organisation is set up.
Small Society Lotteries do not require a licence but must be registered with the licensing authority in the area where the Society's principle premises is situated.
An application to register a Small Society Lottery should be on the relevant application form, available to download below, and accompanied by any necessary documents and the appropriate fee.
The maximum prize per ticket in either money or monies worth is £25,000.
Further advice on running a lottery including raffles, tombolas and sweepstakes is available from the Gambling Commission.
