Community planting fund

Coronavirus update

Due to the coronavirus situation, please note that the closing date for applications to the planting community fund has now been pushed back to 18 September to give groups more time to organise their bids.

The community planting and landscaping fund is available to community groups who wish to deliver projects that aim to enhance Elmbridge’s green spaces.

This fund is open to charities, community interest companies, parish councils, voluntary groups, schools, scouting and girlguiding groups, and other not-for-profit organisations. It can be used for a variety of projects including:

  • Community gardens or allotment associations

  • In-Bloom groups

  • New planters/flower troughs

  • Landscape infrastructure improvements: seating, shelters, raised beds, signs, sculptures and other landscaping features

  • any other projects that would contribute to making Elmbridge a green and brighter borough.

Please note that the fund cannot be used for planting or landscaping projects on private land.

The community planting fund only has limited resources as a one-off fund. Applications are currently open until 18 September 2020.

You can apply to the community planting fund for up to £5,000 to fund your project. Each grant application will be scored and funds of up to a maximum of £5,000 per project will be allocated. Partnership funding is encouraged, but in some cases (i.e. for new groups), is not essential.

Applications will be scored against the following criteria:

  • Contribution to create a more attractive, greener borough

  • Community involvement

  • Volunteer recruitment and retention

  • Long lasting, sustainable improvement

  • Biodiversity

If you are considering applying but would like to discuss your idea with us beforehand, please do not hesitate to contact us. We may be able to support you as follows:

  • Support you in developing your ideas and help you decide what is viable

  • Discuss how best to deliver your objectives

  • Provide advice and guidance

We want to make sure that this new fund fosters community engagement and ownership and helps support initiatives important to the local communities.
