If you’re a full-time student, you may be eligible for a discount on your council tax bill.
Who is eligible?
A student discount or exemption applies to anyone who is registered on a full-time course. Students are required to study for at least 21 hours a week and the course duration is for at least 24 weeks in each academic year.
A student discount or exemption also applies to anyone under the age of 20 taking a course which requires tuition or supervised study for at least 12 hours a week and the course is for at least 3 months.

How to apply
Complete the student discount form, or if all the residents in the property are students, complete the exemption for property with all students form.
You will need to provide:
- your council tax account number
- the student certificate (which must be uploaded)

Changes that may affect your entitlement
You must tell us within 21 days of any circumstances that may affect your entitlement. For example:
- leaving your course
- changing your address
