Reduce your council tax bill

We only accept an application for a discount or exemption by using our online form.

A full council tax bill is based on two or more adults over the age of 18 living in a property. You may be able to get a discount or exemption depending on the circumstances of you and any other adults in your home.

Occupied properties that can get a reduced bill

If there is only one adult, the council tax can be reduced by 25%. Even when there is more than one adult living at an address, some people are not counted when calculating council tax. If after excluding those not counted there is only one or no people remaining you may qualify for a reduction on your bill.

If you wish to let us know that you are the only adult in the household because someone has died, please visit reporting a death to check what you need to do first.

Under some circumstances it is also possible for a property in which a person with a disability lives to pay reduced council tax.

It is also possible for some properties to not pay council tax.
Please read the full list to see if we can reduce your bill.
