Business grants - Covid-19

The government has announced details about a National Lockdown grant from 5 January 2021:

  • A National Lockdown Grant
  • A one-off grant worth £4,000, £6,000 or £9,000 based on your rateable value
  • Additional funding for Discretionary Grant Scheme

Eligible businesses who were paid the National Restrictions Grant (covering 5 November to 2 December) will automatically be paid the new National Lockdown Grant and the one-off grant on or by Friday 22 January 2021.

Additional restrictions local support scheme: Tier 2 and national restrictions (from 5 November to 2 December)

This discretionary scheme aimed at business ratepayers and non-ratepayers where their operation has been adversely impacted by the Tier 2 and National Restrictions over and above the Tier 1 restrictions. Evidence of a significant fall in revenues of over 60%, as a result of the increased restrictions will be required to qualify for a grant.  For further information please read Elmbridge Borough Council – Additional Local Restrictions Support Grant Payments for valid applications will be made on 19 January 2021. Check back here for future payment dates for applications.

The amount of the one off grant award for business rate payers will be as follows:

  • For properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, grants to be £1,500
  • For properties with a rateable value of between £15,001 and £50,999 grants to be £2,500
  • For properties with a rateable value of £51,000 or over grants to be £3,500

Apply for this grant if you are a business rate payer

Businesses who are not rate payersgrants will be awarded based on the annual fixed property costs, including any mooring or marina fees, of the business and rent (plus service charges) or mortgage payments will be used as a proxy for the overall level of fixed costs.

The amount of the one off grants for non-business rate payers will be as follows:

  • For properties with fixed costs of £15,000 or under, grants to be £1,500
  • For properties with fixed costs of between £15,001 and £50,999 grants to be £2,500
  • For properties with fixed costs of £51,000 or over grants to be £3,500

If the business has no fixed property cost exclusively charged to the business the maximum award available is £500

Apply for this grant if you are a business and not a business rate payer

Discretionary business grants scheme: Tier 2 from 17 October to 18 December

Business rate payers in the following sectors:

  • public houses, bars and wine bars
  • cafés and restaurants
  • hotels and bed & breakfasts
  • cinemas and entertainment venues, including public halls
  • tourist attractions 

that have been suffering from reduced demand due to Tier 2 local restrictions introduced in Elmbridge from 17 October can apply for backdated grants at 70% of the value of closed grants pro-rata for the period to 5 November (in Elmbridge this will be for 19 days).

  • For properties with an RV of £15,000 or under, grants of £934 per four weeks
  • For properties with an RV of between £15,001-£50,999, grants of £1,400 per four weeks
  • For properties with an RV of exactly £51,000 and over, grants of £2,100 per four weeks

Business grants scheme: national restrictions (from 5 November to 2 December)

Grant scheme for ratepayers mandated to close 

The government has announced that business rate payers forced to close due to national restrictions between 5 November and 2 December are to receive grants worth up to £3,000 for each four week period.  

  • For properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, grants to be £1,334 per four weeks during national restrictions, or £667 per two weeks
  • For properties with a rateable value of between £15,001-£50,999, grants to be £2,000 per four weeks during national restrictions, or £1,000 per two weeks
  • For properties with a rateable value of £51,000 or over, grants to be £3,000 per four weeks during national restrictions, or £1,500 per two weeks 
Payments for valid applications  will be made on 19 January 2021. The closing date for applications is Sunday 31 January 2021 at 6 pm.

Christmas support business grant for wet-led pubs

We have emailed pubs who may be eligible for this scheme.  The closing date for applications is Sunday 31 January 2021 at 6 pm.

Valid applications will receive payment on 19 January 2021.
