Get help with your claim

A range of support is available to help new benefit claimants. The Council, your landlord (if you are a housing association tenant) and Citizens Advice (Esher and Elmbridge West) can offer you help with getting online and personal budgeting.

Get set for Universal Credit

Are you aged between 18 and 65, live in Elmbridge and claim benefits or may need to start claiming benefits? Download the Get Set! guide to help you prepare for Universal Credit.  The guide includes a list of services and support available locally to help you with budgeting, employment support and computer skills .

Universal Support

Universal Credit claimants can get help to make a claim and manage their payments of Universal Credit. This is called Universal Support. In Elmbridge, Universal Support is provided by Citizens Advice.

Help getting online

As part of Universal Support, Citizens Advice can offer help getting online with advice on:

  • Managing your claim online

  • Setting up an email account

  • Uploading documents to support your claim

  • Keeping your information safe and secure online

  • Printing and scanning documents for your Universal Credit claim

Citizens Advice can also explain what documents and information you will need to complete your online claim.

Help to budget

As part of Universal Support, Citizens Advice also offers personal budgeting support that includes help with:

  • Working out your monthly income and outgoings

  • Understanding your priority payments (rent, utility bills etc)

  • Setting up a budgeting plan

  • Setting up a simple bank account

  • Setting up direct debits for bills
