Death and Bereavement

Tell Us Once

|Tell Us Once aims to ease the burden of informing agencies of a death, by allowing you to tell multiple government agencies about a death, at the same time.

Find out more about making a will, inheritance tax, and government assistance such as Funeral Payments and Bereavement Payments.

|Information relating to bereavement is available on the Directgov website including:

  • Making a Will
Anyone can make a will. You don't have to make a will, but experts may advise you to do so.
  • Inheritance Tax
If your estate is currently worth more than a certain amount (£325,000 from April 2009), there may be inheritance tax to pay when you die.
  • Funeral Payments
If you are getting Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or certain other benefits, you could get help to pay for a simple funeral of a partner, a close relative or a close friend.
  • Bereavement Payments
A bereavement payment is a 2,000 lump sum to help you at the time of your husband's or wife's death.
