In the UK health services are divided into 'primary' and 'secondary' services provided by local NHS organisations called 'trusts'.
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) decide on the health services an area needs and ensures they are provided and accessible. These services include:
A PCT will work with local authorities and other agencies that provide health and social care locally.
On 1st October 2006 the |Surrey PCT, which is the second largest new PCT in the country, was formed from five former Surrey PCTs.
The former PCTs have now become 'Localities' and will continue to provide information on services for their locality and historic information about the PCTs for reference purposes.
