We can all learn from each other and you have more in common than you imagine. Even if it is only that we are all young once and
that one day we will all be old.
Let's celebrate the things the generations have in common and help each other.
With the pressures of everyday life, as we get older it's easy to forget what it's like to be a teenager and for those young people it seems utterly unimaginable being older and not being capable of everyday tasks that are taken for granted.
If you are from a younger generation and you can spare an hour or so, why not check on that older neighbour to make sure they are okay? There are a growing number of people who, as they get older, want to remain independent in their homes. For many this is achievable if they have a little support from those within their community. Someone to provide a bit of company, do a little shopping or help with the odd job around the home.
Similarly, those from older generations have years of experience and perhaps are more likely to have time spare to share this knowledge and expertise with younger people. You will be amazed what you know that young people will find fascinating.
The |Elmbridge Volunteer Bureau should be able to find you a suitable placement which will use your skills and talents. Or what about approaching your local youth club, Scout or Brownie Guide group and see if you can help out there?
